Dear Students, Parents, and Guests – Welcome!
亲爱的同学们，家长们，欢迎！
What a great opportunity to share with you our very positive start to the BC Program at Maple Leaf International Schools – Hainan, the beginning of further successes and causes for celebration.
很荣幸有机会在这里介绍海南枫叶国际学校BC高中取得的良好开端是BC在高中的第一步，我们将在未来取得更大的成功和荣誉。
Upon completion of Summer School, our students were ready to begin their journey in the BC program. In the first week, we concentrated on getting students comfortable with being in a new environment, with new teachers, and speaking in English all day. We played team building games that served to connect students to teachers and to each other, regardless of what group they were placed in — Full BC, Bridging, or Foundations. In the BC high school, everyone treats one another with respect.
暑期课程结束后，孩子们是对的BC课程渴望尝试。开学第一周，我们专注于学生适应新环境、新教师和全英语环境。我们组织BC所有高中生（包括所有加拿大、过渡和基础学生）通过团队活动提高学生和教师的理解，实践枫叶的核心价值观之一，即尊重。
In the first week of classes, students began to experience what Maple Leaf is all about – blending the best of east and west. Our core values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, and Hard Work were instilled in students, together with the excitement of learning in a new way. Teachers introduced students to their courses and explained what they would be learning about this semester, then dove right into their course material.
开学第一周，孩子们开始体验枫叶中西教育优化相结合的教学理念。在新的教学模式下，孩子们非常兴奋，他们逐渐吸收了我们的核心价值观：尊重、诚实、责任和勤奋。各学科的老师首先介绍了相应的课程，解释了孩子们本学期将学到什么，然后带领孩子们深入学习。
If you joined us for our Open Day today, then you would have seen what happens on a regular basis in classes. Students are engaged in their learning through discussions, games, strategies for theory and mechanics of language, and hands-on, inquiry-based activities. If you were unable to visit us today, then I invite you to do so in the near future – you are always welcome.

I visit the classes regularly to see what new and exciting things are happening there. In Mrs. Broughton’s classes, students were trapped on what they thought was a deserted island, were practicing sketching techniques outside, and are using creative tools to learn new vocabulary for use in their writing, including live interviews.

In Mr. Sipherds classes, students are getting a real taste of Maths and Sciences; students were working cooperatively to investigate and test mathematical patterns to determine rules, building complex 3D shapes and studying their properties, then they went on a scavenger hunt around the school to find these shapes in their real-life environment.

Mr. Broughton and his students used role play of buying and selling stocks to learn about accounting, investment, and stock markets. They really enjoy playing Charades to investigate careers, and have been exploring potential professions by creating their own blueprint of their future.

And in ESL classes, I witnessed a wide range of active games, competitions, and other tasks to get students speaking, listening, reading, writing, even thinking in English. Students are making tremendous progress!

Our extra-curricular clubs have been running for a couple of weeks now. Students have opportunities to join extra tutorials, yoga, Ultimate Frisbee, and Art clubs. Students choose something that really interests them to learn about.

The learning taking place in the BC high school includes, but reaches far beyond textbook learning. Investigations, project and problem-solving work, and kinesthetic practice will have lasting implications on our students’ futures.

During Homeroom every morning, teachers are involved in a range of activities to get students’ English, critical thinking, and cooperative skills in motion. We have had discussions, done guided reading, and gotten connected to our learning management system, ‘Schoology’; parents are encouraged to follow their child’s learning with us.
在每天的早期阅读课上，教师通过大量的活动来调动学生学习英语、批判性思维和合作技能的热情。我们进行了讨论，完成了指导阅读，并管理系统连接起来-Schoology；在此，我们还邀请家长加入我们Schoology学习管理系统，同时跟踪儿童的学习状况。
The past two weeks in Homeroom focused on the theme of Heroes. We discussed what a hero is, and explored the feats of various individuals who have made a lasting impact on our global society. Following on from that, each student wrote about and illustrated an individual who is a hero to them. The resulting reflection is that a hero needn’t wear a cape, have superpowers, or save the whole world; everyone has the potential to be a hero, we just need to create meaningful goals and strive towards meeting them.
在过去的两周里，我们开展了英雄主题活动。我们讨论了什么样的人才是英雄，并搜索了各种在世界上有专业知识和持续影响的人。在此基础上，每个学生都写了一篇关于英雄的作文并展示了它。结果表明，英雄不需要斗篷、超能力或拯救地球；每个人都有潜力成为英雄，只要我们设定一个有意义的目标并为之奋斗。
There is a hero in each of our students. I am impressed by how they have invested themselves in the BC program, and very much look forward to continued growth and successes with them. I also invite others; there is a place for everyone in our program – this is a critical time in our young people’s lives, and I invite you to join us in guiding them to their fullest potential.
每个学生都有一个英雄。BC高中时，我对学生们为自己的未来所做的努力感到惊讶，并期待着他们的成长和未来的成功。在这里，我真诚地邀请其他没有选择的人BC高中家长加入我们，因为现阶段对青少年来说非常重要，关系影响他们的生活。我邀请家长和我们一起引导孩子，充分发挥他们的潜力。
