留学学习生活中，撰写论文是大多数专业研究课题、论点阐述课业产出的方式。参考文献（Referencing）它是一项重要的学术技能，是学术工作的重要组成部分。
01 三种主要引用类型
1.在文本中引用（in-text citation）
文本中的引用是学术论文正文中的引用。
In-text citation提醒读者注意，你的观点来自他人。in-text citation文章中应注明相关引文。
以Harvard格式为例：A recent study reveals new information about child health (Wikes,2006).
2.参考书目引用（works cited）
所有参考文献清单收集文件中引用的作品通常位于稿件的末尾。
以Harvard格式为例：Patel, J. (2002a) Signification and Psychology in Education: A Case Study of Theory in Practice. London: Routledge
3.脚注引用（footnotes）
引用页面底部需要列出脚注。
在essay中标记一个数字来表示参考作品的序列号，并在页底脚注前再次放置一个数字来表示哪个参考。
02 四种常见的引用格式
目前，它在英语国家被广泛使用引用系统有以下几种:

1. MLA格式
MLA是Modern Language Association缩写是美国现代语言协会制定的论文指导格式，也是北美大学英语论文写作中最常用的参考格式。目前已出版第八版。
相比APA，CMS就格式而言，等式，MLA论文格式更严谨，更常用。
MLA格式通常用于文学论文。
MLA格式使用非常简短in-text citation在括号中标注作者姓氏+页码即可：
Romantic poetry is characterized by the “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (Wordsworth 263)
如果作者名出现在文本中，括号中只需标注页码：
Wordsworth stated that Romantic poetry was marked by a “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” (263)
如果是两个作者，在两个作者的姓中加入“and”：
The authors claim that surface reading looks at what is “evident, perceptible, apprehensible in texts” (Best and Marcus 9).
如果作者超过三人，则只显示一个作者名，然后使用“et al.”表示：
The authors claim that one cause of obesity in the United States is government-funded farm subsidies (Franck et al. 327).
2. APA格式
APA格式是指美国心理学会（American Psychological Association，简称APA）出版的《美国心理协会出版准则》。APA主要用于心理、教育、社会科学等学科。
APA格式的in-text citation括号内标注作者姓氏+发表年份：
A recent study found a possible genetic cause of alcoholism (Pauling, 2005).
如果文章中提到了作者的姓名，只需标出年份(如有必要，可以添加页数):
Pauling (2005) discovered a possible genetic cause of alcoholism.
如果是两位作者，括号内标注时，姓氏中间为“&“符号连接，顺序以发表文章的顺序为准：
A recent study found a possible genetic cause of alcoholism (Pauling & Liu, 2005).
如果文本中提到两位作者，则使用“and”连接：
Pauling and Liu (2005) discovered a possible genetic cause of alcoholism.
对于3-5位作者，在第一次引用时，应列出所有作者。如果将来引用相同的文献，只需列出最重要的作者，然后使用“et al.“六位以上作者，一般使用主要作者加“et al.”：
A recent study found a possible genetic cause of alcoholism (Pauling et al., 2005).
3. Chicago/Turabian格式
Chicago该格式由芝加哥大学出版社制定，其标准是《芝加哥引注格式使用指南》（The Chicago Manual of Style），广泛应用于书籍、杂志、报纸和人文科学领域。
Turabian格式是指凯特·杜拉宾（Kate Turabian）《学期、学位、学术论文写作指南》（A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations），Turabian其实格式可以理解为芝加哥格式的简单版。
Chicago格式主要有两种形式，第一种脚注常用于文学、历史、艺术等人文学科。
另一种它是作者和年份的文本引用格式，引用形式通常是科学学科，如历史、自然和社会科学。
第一种脚注形式比较常见，所以这里详细介绍一下，脚注格式体现在句尾右上角的序号上：
The book uses success stories from the authors’ own lived experiences to make the case for a creative revolution in the business world.1
标记页面底部的来源，格式如下：作者姓名，斜体作品名(出版地:出版社，出版年份)

4. The Harvard System
Harvard顾名思义，格式是哈佛大学论文的参考标准，全名为：哈佛注释系统(Harvard System）。Harvard格式广泛应用于英国、澳大利亚等国家，特别是在物理和自然科学领域。
文本中引用的哈佛格式与APA格式非常相似，都在括号中标记了作者的姓氏+出版年份：
Gatsby’s infatuation with Daisy is often revealed in the story, often in simple phrases such as, “… he turned toward her with a rush of emotion” (Fitzgerald, 2004).
同样，如果原作者的名字已经在文章中给出，则括号只需包含出版年份：
Gatsby’s infatuation with Daisy is often revealed in the story, often in simple phrases such as, “… he turned toward her with a rush of emotion” (Fitzgerald, 2004)
如果是直接引用或引用某一页的具体内容，我们还需要给出具体的页码，这样读者就可以找到引用部分的具体位置:
Knapper and Cropley (1991: p. 44) believe that the willingness of adults to learn is affected by their attitudes, values and self-image and that their capacity to learn depends greatly on their study skills.
如果作者是两个或三个，则需要列出所有作者的姓氏，但与APA格式不同的是，哈佛格式括号中的作者名称与and连接：
A range of values can express emotion, too. Stark, high-contrast drawings may carry a strong emotional charge” (Lazzari and Schleiser, 2011).
当有许多作者时，他们也给出了第一作者的姓氏，然后加上et al.：
Potter et al. (2013) go on to explain that “among the most Catholic Filipinos, parents keep the newborn inside the home until after the baptism to ensure the baby’s health and protection.
